For this commission by the Debussy Quartet, my imagination turned toward Serbia and the spirit of Žurka, those improvised celebrations where collective fervor and melancholy intoxication intertwine in the heart of the night.
The encore is essentially this moment suspended outside the concert's time, the ultimate confiding, the celebration of the ephemeral, a nocturnal flash that fades away at the peak of its intensity, leaving behind only the warmth of the shared moment.
Zurka belongs to the Exils cycle, which brings together short, rhythmic pieces for string quartet inspired by various regions of the world.
